and friends on their biggest loss. Prem
Chumber |
Dear
All,
With heavy heart and great sorrow, I am to inform
all of you that Mr. Mehar Singh Dhariwal passed
away suddenly on 29th January, 2012 aged 62 years.
His sudden and untimely demise has left the entire
community in a state of shock. He was one of the
founding fathers of Dr. Ambedkar Mission Society,
Bedford and remained active till his last breath.
He served the Mission Society in various capacities
and was always in forefront to organise Society’s
functions. He was also a leading member of the
Punjab Buddhist Society, UK and helped to build
Takshila Maha Buddha Vihara, Ludhiana (Punjab).
He
was well respected in whole of the community.
He was regular visitor to the Peace Pagoda at
Milton Keynes. Mehar Singh and his family always
had food stall to provide refreshments to the
devotees at the annual ceremony of the Peace Pagoda
since its opening about 32 years ago. He played
a prominent role in spreading Babasaheb Dr. Ambedkar
and Lord Buddha’s message throughout UK
and India. He will be greatly missed but never
forgotten. He survived his wife, three sons and
three grandsons. Our deepest sympathy goes to
the family.
Arun Kumar, Dr Ambedkar

SHRI
GURU RAVIDASS SABHA VANCOUVER
SHRI
GURU RAVIDASS SABHA VANCOUVER (CANADA)
REMEMBERED GHADRI BABA JI BABU MANGU RAM MUGOWALIA
A GREAT FREEDOM FIGHTER & FOUNDER OF THE GLORIOUS
“AD DHARM MOVEMENT IN PUNJAB” ON HIS
126TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY
|
Babu
Mangu Ram Mugowalia was the founder of the glorious Ad Dharm
movement in Punjab. The Ad Dharm movement was the only movement
of its kind in the Northwestern region of the country that
aimed at securing a respectable place for the scheduled
castes through cultural transformation and political assertion
rather than seeking patronage from above. Another important
feature of this movement was that it intended to bring social
transformation and spiritual regeneration in the lives of
the downtrodden. Although, this movement ceased to exist
in its vehement form after the first general election in
independent India, its emphasis on social transformation
and political assertion against structures of social inequality
and oppression continues to attract the Ad-Dharmis and other
scheduled castes of Punjab even today.
Babu
Mangu Ram Mugowalia set a clear agenda for the emancipation
of the Dalits and their upliftment. The agenda aimed at
restoring their lost indigenous religion and provide them
with a sense of self-respect and dignity. The method to
achieve this agenda was based on cultural transformation
and spiritual regeneration of the indigenous people contemptuously
known as Ati-Shudras. Babu Mangu Ram Mugowalia was not in
favour of embracing any other existing religion. He was
in favour of strengthening the Adi (the original) religion
of the indigenous people of this country. His views on Hindu
religion were very clear. He was of the opinion that since
Dalits were not born Hindu where is the need for them to
leave that religion and to embrace some other one. Babu
Mangu Ram Mugowalia thought it appropriate to empower Dalits
by carving out a separate Dalit identity on the basis of
their indigenous religious strength (Ad Dharm). In one of
his interviews to Professor Mark Juergensmeyer, a reputed
scholar of Ad Dharm movement, Babu Mangu Ram said proudly
“we helped give them [Ad Dharmis] a better life and
made them into a Qaum. We gave Gurus to believe in and something
to hope for”. Thus the real contribution of Babu Mangu
Ram Mugowalia and the Ad Dharm movement was in forging a
separate and independent Dalit identity in Punjab, which
helped them reclaim their long lost original Adi religion
and their forgotten heroes and gurus. All Ad Dharmis are
indeed proud of for what Babu Mangu Ram Mugowalia did for
them and are sincerely indebted to him. We all remember
him reverently on his birth anniversary.

Arundhuti
Roy, the famous writer the famous comrade, a real life role
model of lots of people of youth, but it really shocked
the world on 20th January 2012 at St. Xavier's college near
CST Mumbai, when she mentioned about Dr. Babasaheb's book
Annihilation of caste, in which Babasaheb told The workers
communist nation has to face two enemies one is capitalism
and another one is Brahminism. And on this comment she quoted
these words and told "I should not be misunderstood
by saying that Brahmanism as enemy". You say a lot
about freedom patriotism capitalism but India you say Brahmanism
is not an enemy then its clear you are in whose side. She
supports Maoism and says lots of things about communism
then she must know who killed the communist Movement in
India Brahmanism, They are the leaders and she must know
what happened to Babasaheb too when he got elected for constitutional
assembly election and mainly from these districts Faridpur,
Khulna, Jashar and Barishal and what now the Brahmanical
empored India corporation gave these districts to Bangladesh
to make sure he never get elected again. The communist trade
unions in India why they failed because they were leaded
by Brahmanical ideological people The labours didn't went
with the ideology of Communism the ideology to protest capitalism
but instead they were misleaded and they protested for the
luxury of employees no where in communist it's been said
that to welcome capitalism and protest for luxury of labours.
And Arundhuti supports these communist leaders. The Maoisism
is same the Brahmins are the leaders misleading the people
killing tribals and giving their lands to tribals. And when
you say Babasaheb wrong that means you say that Bahujan
exploited class people are wrong and you say to much about
people and you one statement shows that how fake she is
and how blindly she supports it. The Bahujans made her their
role model but after this statement it’s clear that
she is not worthy to be followed as a role model.

My
final words of advice to you are Educate,
Agitate and Organize; have faith
in yourself. With justice on our side I
do not see how we
can loose our battle. The battle to me is
a matter of joy. The battle is in the fullest
sense spiritual. There is nothing material
or social in it.
For ours is a battle not for wealth or for
power. It is battle for freedom. It is the
battle of reclamation of human personality?
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

Born
an untouchable, Dr. Ambedkar wrote: “The effect of the caste
on the ethics of the Hindus is simply deplorable. Caste has killed
public spirit.
Caste has destroyed the sense of public charity. Caste has made
public opinion impossible. A Hindu’s public is his caste.
His responsibility is only to his caste. His loyalty is restricted
only to his caste” (Rodrigues,
Valerian) |
