In Loving Memory of
MOHAN LAL MALL

January 5, 1925 – July 28, 2010

Mr. Mohan Lal Mall was born on January 5, 1925 in the village Rurki, Punjab, India. He was the youngest child out of five for Rakhi and Easri Ram. He was fond of music and local folklore in his youth. He worked on the family farm as he grew up. He used to travel to different villages for his professional livestock business. He became a well known businessman in the Phillaur area.
In 1941, he married Gurmej Kaur. They have eight beautiful children together. He migrated to the United States in 1986. He first lived in San Jose, CA. He used to work in a landscaping business when he first arrived in the US. He encouraged all his children to work very hard and earn an honest living. Even though he never had any formal education in his upbringing, he taught his children and grandchildren the importance of an education.
After a couple of years living in San Jose, he moved to Sacramento, CA with his family. He has been living in Sacramento since 1997. He was an active member of the Gurdwaras. He used to walk to all the local parks and make friends with everyone. The first thing he used to ask was “What village are you from back home?”

Mr. Mall played a very influential role in the upbringing of his elder sister’ son, Mr. Lahori Ram. He was an uncle and friend to him. He is survived by his wife and eight children: Harbans Kaur, Balvir Chand, Surinder Singh, Mohinder Pal, Joginder Lal, Resham Lal, Harmesh Lal, and Surinder Kaur. MISS HARPREYA CHUMBER'S
MARVELOUS ACHIEVEMENTS

C. L. Chumber

Mrs. Balvir Kaur Chumbar was honored by Mr. C.L. Chumber, Chief Editor, at the office of monthly journal "Kaumi Udarian" Jalandhar in Punjab during her last visit to Punjab

I am very happy to read on the www.ambedkartimes.com that our daughter Miss Harpreya Chumber graduated and ranked first out of four hundred students. She won scholarships in past also .Once my wife read a conclusions of some one published in a Punjabi news paper .In the news paper published ," If you wish to know about a religious person then live with him / her . If you wish to know about a teacher then you must meet the students of that teacher. If you wish to know about any parents then you have to meet their children." Miss Harpreya Chumber `s marvelous achievements show that her parents are very education minded and more over they are also staunch feminists .They allowed their daughter equal educational opportunities and environment . I met her mother Mrs. Balvir Kaur Chumber when she visited our home with other relatives last year. She is belonged to village Puran Pur adjacent to the Jalandhar   City and married to Mr. Satnam Chumber r/o village Kultham (Nawan Shahar / SBS Nagar) .They both now live in USA .Mrs. Chumber  is also a graduate but now the whole family is now  the graduate parents ! I hope the students and parents will be inspired from this.

Mr. Satnam Singh Chumber talked to me once on the phone. He is very clear hearted like her wife. Alas! His mother and brother would have alive to feel proud this marvelous achievement. I think that this is the real ' Shardhanjali ' to them!

I am in Pune ( Maharashtra ) with my wife to meet our daughters who are managers in the MNCs. I on the behalf of the entire Adi Dharamis living in India and abroad, and my family members congratulate to the Chumber family, their relatives and friends especially Miss Harpreya .I also thank the  www.ambedkartimes.com for highlighting this rare achievement .

A Tribute to late Babu Lahori Ram

By O. P. BALLEY
Co-founder -Sri Guru Ravidass Sabha Pittsburg (California)

Bhog in Memory of the Late Babu Lahori Ram at 11:00 on Sunday January 25, 2009
at Shri Guru Ravidass Temple, 2150 Crestview Drive Pittsburg, CA 9456

The sudden and untimely passing away of Babu Lahori Ram Ji on January 11, 2009 during a trip to Vancouver, Canada left the entire Indian community in a state of stunning shock. A large gathering of mourners at his funeral services held in San Francisco on January 18, 2009 estimated to be more than a thousand people from US and abroad bears testimony to his popularity as a great community leader. During my long association for more than 32 years in US with Mr. Lahori Ram I had the opportunity to work with him on many important social issues and projects of community interest.

He was a man of strong spiritual, social and political beliefs which he vouched with passion, firmness and determination. At the same time he was always very resilient, soft and responsive to those in need. He provided inspiration and encouragement to every body that came in contact with him. During a short span of his life Mr. Lahori Ram, besides his personal accomplishments as a successful business man, providing the best education to his children, he lifted the image and stature of the Indian community as well.

He will be remembered with respect and dignity for his sustained and selfless efforts as a co-founder of Sri Guru Ravidass Temple in Pittsburg California. He was gifted with abundant resourcefulness and undaunted courage to meet any challenge in the way of his endeavors which also earned him awards of honor and distinction. He always encouraged the members of the Indian community in US to involve more and more to their full potential in the mainstream of American life to become productive citizens of this great country. He will be deeply missed for his contributions to society for many, many years to come.

I offer my heartfelt condolences on this irreparable and irreplaceable loss to the bereaved family and the community at large with prayers to Almighty God to bestow peace and tranquility upon the departed soul.

THE FIRST RAVDASSIA CANDIDATE
TO STAND FOR GENERAL ELECTION

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

 Jai Sat Guru Ravidass Ji

We are writing this letter on behalf of Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha Ontario , the only Ravidassia organization in Ontario . This letter is to confirm and affirm our wholehearted support to Mr. Jerry Bance as a PC Candidate from Scarborough Rouge River constituency . Mr. Bance (who we friendly address as Jagiri) , it must not be forgotten by our community, was one of the pioneers in Toronto area who started and spearheaded the efforts to open the first Guru Ravidass Temple in Toronto and worked tirelessly towards its growth. Being from Dalit community, Mr. Bance has not only overcome many hardships that we faced in India (and many times here also), but has reached, through his concerted efforts and community services to a level, where he has broken an important barrier in Canada of being the first Ravidassia candidate to stand for general elections.

While many may not consent with our choice of using word Dalit to address an individual who is established in society, but it must be made known to sceptics that his rise to the current status has been through a path of hardships and struggle, a path that is strewn with risks, a path that many others tried to follow and faltered. So his initiative and motives are not only noble but also commendable. Being from a socially and financially disadvantaged community like all of us, it is not only a matter of pride for our community but also serves as an encouragement to our community youth to follow in his steps.

We sincerely hope that Mr. Bance would identify himself and come forth strongly as a RAVIDASSIAN to fight the forces of discrimination and injustice and serve as a role model for others.  We strongly encourage everybody on behalf of Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha Ontario to contribute towards Mr. Bance’s success in their own manner through donations and/or volunteer support.

Best Regards,

Sunil Raju (General Secretary on behalf of Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha Ontario, Cnada)

Dear Community,

I would like to introduce to you our very own Jerry Bance.  Once again Mr. Bance is running for a Member of Parliament position for the Scarborough-Rouge River riding. Many of you know him as being an active member of our community- both within the Dr. Ambedkar Mission and Guru Ravidass Sabha.  He has supported every one of our cultural and religious events, and now it is our turn to support him in his efforts to make his riding a better place to live in.

Jerry came to Canada over 30 years ago, since than he has been a distinguishing member of many groups. For 6 years, Mr. Bance was the president of Ravidass Sabha Toronto. During his time there he along with other members bought a building, which is known, to everyone as the Guru Ravidass Temple in Burlington . Not only has he had a vast impact within the Ravidass community but also within the Dr. Ambedkar Mission Toronto, his support will never be forgotten. He was one of the founding members of the mission, and now he supports it with his generous gifts and advice to the members.

Mr. Bance is a successful businessman in the appliance industry. He is always happy to employ members of the community and provide appliance training at no cost to many unemployed men and women. Once elected, Jerry will continue his initiative to support small businesses and families by cutting taxes, tackling crime and investing in Canada .  He wants to make the Scarborough Rouge River a stronger, safer and a better place to live in. Unfortunately, over the years the community has deteriorated due to gang wars and violence. Past elected officials saw these problems, but took little action to rectify them. Jerry believes that on his watch, he will be able to change that. By enforcing new laws to fight crime and by developing tax credits for transit, youth sports, textbooks, tools and apprentice programs, he will make the Scarborough Rough River a great area for youth to grow up in.

Jerry is a well-known personality within the South Asian community here in Toronto as well as all across Canada . He has been apart of our lives in some way or another. And now it is time to give back to Jerry, and support him in his efforts to make Scarborough a better place. The Conservative Party of Canada and Jerry Bance's team could not be successfully without the help of thousands of volunteers across Canada . A strong team of volunteers across Canada will help Mr. Bance win the election for his riding on October 14 th. My request to you is to get active, whether it is supporting him financially or morally, every little help is appreciated. He has given so much to our community and I know that he would be grateful to know that he has two large communities supporting him, the Dr. Ambedkar Mission Toronto and the Guru Ravidass Sabha. Get your children involved.  They can accumulate volunteer hours for school credits. Everyone can benefit from Jerry Bance winning.

If you would like to support Jerry Bance in his initiative please visit his website www.jerrybance.com or you can call him 416.286.5151

Thank you,
Anand Balley
