DEAR MR SUKHBIR BADAL,
HOPE THIS LETTER FINDS YOU WELL.

Vishav Bharti A rural school passout
(Now Senior Reporter with Hindustan Times)
From media reports, I have come to know that you have "donated" Rs. 1 crore to your alma mater, The Lawrence School, Sanawar, from public money. Everybody has love for his school. So, it was an obvious gesture on your part of 'giving back'. I, too, have love for my school. But unlike yours, mine is not "famous" or "prestigious". My alma mater was neither established by colonial masters nor does it have a one-and-a-half-century-long tale to tell.

My school is one of the 18,000-odd schools being run by the government, of which you are the deputy chief minister. It was built by those who believed "knowledge is freedom" and dreamt that even the poorest of the poor in independent India had the right to that freedom. Sadly, the dream has been shattered; the vision seems to have become tunnel vision.

Sir, my school doesn't have pretty faces as yours has. The idea of uniform arrived in my school recently. The students still shy away from the colonial language. Unlike yours, my school doesn't have any names to boast of. Not even a single noteworthy student in the past two decades has come out of my humble institution.

Present-day teachers say that there are hardworking students, but not "intelligent" enough to become engineers or doctors. Most of them who study in the school run by your government, Mr Badal, are the poorest of the poor, children of Dalits, rural labourers and landless peasants. The situation seems to have turned worse than it was one-and-a-half-decade ago, when I was a student.

A fresh query reveals that students up to Class 8 in my school don't have benches to sit. The luxury of benches comes only when they enter Class 9. In our time, we enjoyed this luxury in Class 8. Till then, students used to be responsible for managing their own seats, which were often discarded white pesticide bags.

From my batch, I was the only one to reach the graduation level. No, I was not better than the others in any way. It was easy for a mediocre child of a schoolteacher to attain that level. However, when you were questioned about the gesture, you counter-questioned, "What is the duty of heads of governments? We give grants to schools, hospitals."

My school also needs an alumnus who could "care" for it. But from where would it get one? Is anybody even ready to send their children to those schools? Are you ready, Mr Badal, to send your own children to schools which your government owns. Those times, too, have long passed when teachers would admit their children in the schools where they taught. Who is responsible for this mess, Mr Badal? You? Your father, Parkash Singh Badal, or Capt Amarinder Singh? Who is guilty of ruining my school, Mr Badal?

We know the answer! It is not one or two governments. Government after government has betrayed the rural students of Punjab. Sir, my school also begs for your attention. It is asks, whose 'duty' is it to save it.

However, this "duty" which you recently fulfilled reminds me and my classmates of the feudal age and the emperors who would shower jagirs on sycophants, darbari artistes and writers of the palace, while their own praja (public) starved. Your Rs. 1-crore "duty" towards your super-rich school comes at a time when your own schools are dying, Mr Badal.

AMBEDKARTIMES.COM - A VOICE OF VOICELESS
GREETINGS FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT OF SHRI GURU RAVIDASS SABHA SACRAMENTO (CALIFORNIA)
Dear Editor,

Congratulations! on the accomplishment of six successful years of Ambedkartimes.Com - a voice of voiceless. Today we are living in a scientific world and the e-media is one of an excellent mode of communication, whereby a person can learn, make others aware and convey a myriad of information in a comfortable environment. Thereby, you are doing a great community service by providing the citizens with accurate and reliable information, making them aware of the rich heritage of our history that for long been suppressed and the community been disenfranchised.

Like others, I know you have other priorities too concerning chores of everyday life. However, your allegiance to the community and enlightening them with the grassroots of our history speaks volumes in itself. I wish you a brilliant success in years ahead. Keep up the good work.

Thank you.

Jai Bhim! We all know that the demand of having LOKPAL is against the constitution and leads to destroying the democracy of India. Anna Hajare's act should not be tolerable by Indian (Ambedkarite Buddhist). Who has faith in the constitutional laws and believes that it can put anyone behind the bar if rightly executed. So somewhere we should stop this act of Anna Hajare and show to the world that existing constitution is enough to safe guard everything.

Please join hands in Satayagra at Pune District Collector Office near, Pune station, Pune at 7:00 am. on August 16, 2011. Our voice should be reached by the media so please come in large number. Please forward this message every corner of the world wherever you can.

EDUCATE, AGITATE & ORGANIZE: Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

Dear Mr. Prem Chumber,

I feel happy to go through the contents of www.ambedkartimes.com & wish to congratulate you for your service to the society. The logo should be like - Educate, organise & agitate. Before we agitate, we need to organise.

I wish to send you some photos of Guru Ravidass Jayanti celebrations 2008 in Jalandhar. For your information I got the opportunity to work with Mr. Mark for about more than three years in 1978-80 & you may find my name in preface his book -RELIGION AS SOCIAL VISION reprinted in India under the different title. Mr. Mark & I met & asked few questions to the great personality Babu Mangu Ram Mugowalia Ji in his farm house near Jaijjon few months before his death. I got the opportunity to listen & be present with Dr. Raunki Ram.

Dr. Gurinder Singh Mann, head of program on SIKH RELIGION & PUNJAB STUDIES, Santabara, California University-regularly in touch with me along with his group while
on one month tour program in Punjab every year.

I feel there is need for young persons like you who are dedicated to social cause because despite some betterment in economic conditions, our society should come out of mental slavery which I have seen not only in India, but also in Europe, U.K, USA & in other countries during my various visits during the last 25 years.

With best wishes

Editor's Response: Educate Agitate Organize

Dear Mr. Manohar Lal Mahey Ji,

Jai Bhim! Thanks for e-mailing me. It’s been long time. I remember that I have met you and your father many times in Jalandhar when my elder brother Mr. C.L. Chumber (Chief Editor of Kaumi Udarian, Jalandhar) published the souvenir of Babu Mangu Ram Mugowalia in 1985 and also during his publication monthly journal “Kaumi Udarian” Jalandhar.

Today I am very happy to read that you are visiting the website www.ambedkartimes.com and the President of Vigilant Brotherhood (International), Jalandhar. Many people have asked me the same question that you have asked me too. I am just stating this statement as Baba Sahib did. Again kindly refer to Baba Sahib Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s own words: "My final words of advice to you are educate, agitate and organize; have faith in yourself. With justice on our side, I do not see how we can lose our battle. The battle to me is a matter of joy. The battle is in the fullest sense spiritual.......” Dhananjay Keer, Dr. Ambedkar: Life and Mission , Third Edition, 1971, Page 351). Kindly see also: “Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Writings and Speeches Vol. 1 (Education Department, Govt. of Maharashtra, 1979)" Specially the Chapter on Communal Deadlock and a way to solve it. Thank you so much for visiting www.ambedkartimes.com. I am so happy that you read the website carefully and I respect your comments towards the site. Please send me the report and photos of Shri Guru Ravidas Gurpurb Celebration and please keep in touch. With regards,

A little suggestion about your site

Jai Bheem Ji,

Prem Ji your site is excellent and I appreciate the hard work and precious time you are paying for community. Prem Ji I have just one confusion that instead of educate agitate organize it is educate organize agitate. We have to organize first before agitating. Please have a close look and a little research then react if you feel that my point is valid. Rest all is excellent. Thanks and keep it up.

THANKS FOR ENCOURAGEMENT

Dear Chumber brother,

I would like to thank Mr. D. R. Bhatti ( Toronto , Canada ) for his nice words and encouraging me for writing more. Remember and celebrate we must, but at the same time we should follow the path shown by our forefathers and work towards the empowerment of our people who had been the victims of caste prejudice. Until or unless we raise our voice in unison, nobody is going to listen and do something about it. For celebrations we turn up into thousands, when there is a need for showing the numbers against atrocities, we are all busy in our house hold work or engaged in somewhere else. The objective of my article was only to make these people aware of the current situation.

Once again thanks for the encouragement and correcting me as well.

With warmest regards,

GREAT JOB DONE BY MR. ARUN KUMAR

Dear Chumber Ji,

The Article by Arun Kumar Ji, Shri Guru Ravidass as an Advocate of Human Rights is great job done by Mr. Arun Kumar, that is what is the need of hour, but we the followers of Guru Ravidass and Dr. Ambedkar only limit ourselves only to celebrate the anniversaries not taking any concrete steps to educate our community about the real teaching of Guru Ravidass Ji and Dr. Ambedkar. In one of Article written by Mr. Khushi Ram also points towards the same thing in which he wrote about Jesus  Christ saying to his disciples that they are calling him a lord and do not do what he says. Similarly we the followers of Shri Guru Ravidass Ji and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar we only that we are indebted to Guru Ravidass and Dr. Ambedkar what don't want to take the action toward educating the community.

I like the article by Mr. Arun Kumar please convey my regards to him and also request  your office and Mr. Arun Kumar  to check the spellings in the article( like Prey instead of Pray and idles instead of Idols) before being put on the web site. Any how on the whole he has been very successful in conveying the message. Keep it up Mr. Arun. Hope to see some more articles like this.

Thank you very much.

'Harbans Kaur Memorial Charitable Trust'

Dear Mr. Chumber Ji,
Jai Bheem,

I am Dr. Suresh Badhan from Jalandhar, Punjab and currently settled in Delhi . I am running a charitable trust in the memory of my mother. The name of the trust is 'Harbans Kaur Memorial Charitable Trust' and it is registered in Delhi since 1999. We are also working for the welfare of poor and weaker sections of the society. Each month a free medical camp is organised in different localities where free medicines are distributed to the poor and needy without any charges. Recently the free camp was organised in a slum cluster near 'Sarita Vihar' in South Delhi on 2nd March 2008 . Prominent doctors attended the camp and distributed free medicines to the patients. I am enclosing some of the photographs of the camp for the viewers. It is also requested that some donations may be sent to the trust in any form for the needy persons. The donations to the trust is exempted from income tax under section 80-G of the income tax and also the trust is registered with RBI and is authorized to receive donations from foreign land also. Chumber Ji once again thanks for helping the community through Ambedkar times.com.

GURPURB & NAGAR KIRTAN ON MARCH 9 TH 2008

Jai Bhim! Jai Bharat!!

Jaspreet Dehar

I want to wish all the Sat Sangat a very happy Gurpurb. I would like to courage all the community members to gather at the Nagar Kirtan in Rio Linda, California on March 9th, 2008 . It is one of the only events that our community has every year and the Sat Sangat makes it festive. This event brings out our community and gives others a view of who we are as people and brings out our history. I also encourage the parents to bring their children to this event and I believe the youth must become involved in the community and we must all not forget our roots and where we came from. Guru Ravidas Maharaja came to this planet and changed the course of Indian history. His philosophy and teachings make a great deal of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. He influenced many leaders of our community and March 9th is the day we can all gather to celebrate his Happy Gurpurb.

Buddhist Sunday school and Dhamma Class

Dear Devotee and supporter of the Indian Buddhist Temple Toronto. We would like to inform all of you that from this coming Sunday 27th of January 2008, in Indian Buddhist Temple (Established under Ambedkar Mission Toronto Dhamma class will start at 1pm to 3pm. So we are requesting all of you. Please you and your kid’s participation this Dhamma class projects.

Why the Dhamma school so important & how can its help once improvement in their life? Meaning of the Dhamma or virtue “ Lit” and object of mind may be anything past, present or future, corporeal or mental conditioned or not real and imaginary. As we human being we usually need for live foods, cloths, medicine, education, house, money etc. But if there those thing a man had but whom he haven’t any morality in his own life than he not call a noble person in the society or civilize man, because the virtue are give us a right direction in life and its acknowledge to a man how he share kind, sympathy or behave and respect to others. Some people are claim that we are not Buddhist, so why we follow the Buddha or his doctrine? I have to clear here that the meaning of Buddha is wisdom and His noble doctrine are the Law of nature and reality. You no need to become a Buddhist to practice His teaching, when you will see the Dhamma than you will see The Buddha and find your own salvation.

Yours in the Dhamma

Jai Bhim!

I like to suggest that your website is very popular and if you want to give Punjabi/Hindi version of news then you should use your own website name Ambedkartimes.com. Everyone knows your website and you have work very hard to establish your name. Please do not use any other name for news. Thank you.

The Koregaon Victory and Savitri Bai Phule's birthday

Jai Bhim!

On account of independent Phule-Ambedkarite students' group named as In Remembrance in Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi determines to promote Phule-Ambedkarite ideology among our youth-students to promote them to work in the way of this ideology. Many programmes in series are planned for this year like to celebrate the birthdays of Bahujan ancestors, organizing seminars, campaigning, magazine launching, and releasing pamphlets at respective occasions in remembrance of our ancestors like Rastrapita Jyotirao Phule, Sahuji Maharaj, Peryiar Ramaswamy, Savitribai Phule , Jhalkaribai, Udabai, Buddha Gautama, Satguru Kabir, Guru Ravidass, Guru Nanak, Narayana Guru, and Sahib Kanshi Ram etc.

We expect that through your website you will give courage to us for fulfilling this noble cause, and time to time we also expect your guidelines as morale to us. Recently, from the beginning of New Year we have distributed 1000 copies of each pamphlet all over the hostels of JNU regarding the Koregaon Victory and Savitri Bai Phule's birthday. In response of it, we have got many praising emails and verbal voices.

Here I have a humble request for you; I hope you'll boost us by fulfilling it. As we feel that Bahujan Ancestors' efforts and contributions are being sidelined and shadowed in Indian History should be campaigned at larger level to save the great thoughts, deeds, and philosophy of our ancestors. Among them one is Krantijyoti Savitri Bai Phule who is the real emancipator of Bahujan women. Her birthday on 3rd Jan we call as Women Respect Day. We request you to publish the attached pamphlet of Savitri Bai Phule's birthday in your website space if it does not hurt in anyway to you. By this way, many people could be benefited by reading this. Hope your positive response!

With Regards

Report of Solapur Dhamma Yatra

The duty and responsibility of the society

The Solapur District Maharashtra Dhamma Yatra started from 1st Nov. 2007. Upasika Surekha Salve, age-18 yrs accompanied the Yatra for all 9 days. Lalit Babar and his associates Vandana Sonawle and Vanraj Kamble gave moral support as well as guidence as they are from Solapur District and well aware of the geographical area. We visited 13 villages Sangola Taluka, Mangalvedha Taluka, Malshiras Taluka, Madha Taluka, Pandharpur Taluka, Mohol Taluka and Solapur City in 9 days. The villages covered are Kolegaon and Hatid from Sangola Taluka, Dongargaon and Sonand from Sangola Taluka, Dahivali and Andhalgaon from Mangalveda Taluka, Vedapur, Malinagar and Akluge from Malshiras Taluka, Gadegaon and Karadnaka from Pandharpur Taluka, 2 programms at Ekta Nagar from Madha Taluka, Siddharth Nagar from Mohol Taluka and Ramapati Chowk in Solapur City.

Most of women in the villages said that they will come out of superstition when they knew the consequences and reality of their worshipping Gods and also the truthfulness and good life which can be gained by Dhamma.

Approximately a group of 75 young boys and girls showed their interest to gain knowledge of Dhamma and paid arttention to the Dhamma Desasa organised in their respective villages. A group of 20 young boys from Maddha Taluka asked for Dhamma (Shramner Shibir) and promised to make arrangements in the month of May 2008 (tentative dates 10th May-15th May). 4 small girls and a boy named Mahesh Kamble from Malinagar; Malshiras Taluka accompanied the Dhamma Yatra to another village where as Mahesh continued with the Yatra till the end. Almost all the children and student promised to continue and go for higher studies as they got to know the importance of education in their life.

Now it is the duty and responsibility of the society to take this young group to Dhamma and guide them in future. They are looking forward towards Dhamma work which can show them the right path. I hope all who are recieving this mail can give their suggestions as how to bring them permanantly in the mainstream of Dhamma and make their future as well as the future of the society, bright.

Dr. Ambedkar's speech on your website

I am a teacher in Canada. I found your website on-line and used the following article with my students. We found it very interesting. It is an eloquent summary of parliamentary democracy, put into a modern context. Before showing it to my students, I made some changes to the spelling and grammar. The English is now correct, without any major errors. I thought that I would share these changes with you, so that (if you wished) you could post this edited version of Dr. Ambedkar's speech on your website.

Respectfully,

The website has undergone dramatic change

First and foremost I would like to wish yourself and your family a Happy Thanksgiving. I have been recently reading various articles that are posted on your new and developed web page. I would like to comment, and must say, that the website has undergone dramatic change both in appearance and focus. It is not only more user friendly, but also entails greater detail which is indeed more appealing to the
general public. Your gesture to further educate and commitment to the justification of underserved communites has earned much deserved respect amongst many of my colleagues. Please continue the good work. Happy Holidays,

Opinions: “ambedkartimes.com and the So-called Upper Castes”.

GREAT RESPONSE

I just read your following note. It is great response to protect and keep Dalits and Dalit sympathetic readers focus on Baba Sahib's philosophy. Let those come and join who believe in annihilation of caste system and social equality regardless of their background, religion and faith. I don't think we will find very many volunteers from Brahmanism to support Baba Sahib's struggle for liberty, equality and upliftment of human beings/dalits.

Report by: Manohar Mouli Biswas

The Thirteenth Chuni Kotal Memorial Lecture Bangla Dalit Sahitya Sanstha of Kolkata arranged its thirteenth Chuni Kotal Memorial Lecture in the afternoon of August 9, 2007 in the premises of Janaki Sundari Vidyalaya, Dum Dum Cantonment, Kolkata 700065. Chuni Kotal was a Lodha Tribal Community Girl of Medinipure district. She committed suicide on August 16, 1993 while she was an M.Sc student in Vidyasagar University. What happened to her, she had been fighting with the poverty on the one hand and on the other hand she had been suffering from the caste hatred. In the classroom some of her teacher number of times said to her, ‘You the tribal of this soil get well-salaried jobs without higher qualification, then why you have come for M.Sc.?’ She was mentally hurt. And for getting remedy she complained to the V-C against the said professor. Then she was under the tremendous mental pressure to withdraw the complaint. Mentally she could not sustain and ultimately committed suicide.

Symbolically her death has been accepted by the Dalits of West Bengal to protest against the caste-hatred. This year the topic of memorial lecture was about: ‘Paschim Bange Dalit Banchanar Swarup ebong Pratikar Andolon’. Dr. Birat Bairagya and Mr. Arun Maji were invited for the memorial lecture. Both of them are having lot of experiences and discussed the exploitations of dalits in West Bengal in details and the different sorts of their remedial movemements. Dr. Bikram Sarkar, IAS (Retd) was in the chair of chief guest. He elaborated the ways and means of suppression and oppression upon the dalits. Mr. Nakul Mallick has presided over the meeting. The preparatory lecture was given by Manohar Mouli Biswas, the General Secretary of Bangla Dalit Sahitya Sanstha who had told to the house why this type of memorial lecture has been arranged for last twelve years. There were a good number of the people present in the meeting. A book of grammar of Oraon tribal language was released in the function by Dr. Bikram Sarkar and the author of the book is Mr. Ramesh Bhagat, a tribal write of Oraon community.

"YOUNG ARE THE STARS OF TOMORROW"

This is Sucha Ram's son, I am sure that you know my father. You're website is a great contribution to the online world. It shows the current leaders of today and how they are working towards making a better future for the next generation. I would request that we look at the current young leaders in our community that are the stars of tomorrow. This list could include athletes, political leaders, or students that are working hard to bring prosperity to our community. I believe education that will help our community compete with the others and will help complete Dr. Ambedkar's dream. Although we have come to United State of America and have been educated, let us not forget our brothers and sisters in India. I hope start trusts and foundations that we can bring help to these individuals become educated. The education is a tool that will break the chains of Indian Society; business looks at the degrees one hold and their education. Resumes do not ask for Castes; please encourage our leaders to push forth this movement. Thanks for working so hard on this website and keep up the great work. I wish you all the best and the staff. Indian Buddhist Society Toronto, congratulates

Ambedkartimes.com on successful completion of first year of website
Ambedkartimes.com website is connecting our community globally.

Personally, I was able to read more about our great scholar, writer, political thinker and great personality Dr. Ronki Ram’s very impressive articles based on his unique and intensive research.

A website must have lots of required user friendly features like easy search function, new and easy to read online content, changed color of visited links, acceptable font size for most of the users, page titles for easy navigation, no pop up information that interrupts readers, answer to users’ questions, pictures and graphs for self explanation of information, being aware about users requirements, providing credible content and well organized content to sustain current readers and invite new to the site.

All above features are evident in Ambedkartimes.com that makes this site more frequently visited site for our new community activities and for important information.

We had the pleasure to share our activities with viewers of this site across the globe that had us motivated to continue our mission and to keep each and everyone informed.

If we were to suggest anything for this site; we would suggest that Mr. Chumber must keep his site updated with new and credible content.

All articles and information should be checked for its authentication. Information received should be verified prior to posting on the site. An improved quality of pictures will impress viewers and keep them bringing back. Also, continue inviting suggestions on an on going basis for the site.

Finally, we commend Mr. Prem Kumar Clumber’s laborious work, dedication and commitment that are making it happen for all of us.

His committed dedication to host the site is highly appreciated and we wish him great success, good health and good luck for future.

May Lord Buddha shower him with happiness, peace and prosperity!

RETIRED US ARMY COLONEL G.B. SINGH WILL DISCUSS GANDHI’S RACISM AT KING CENTER

Dear Mr.Chumber,

I am contacting you on behalf of Organization for Minorities of India. We are sponsoring an event which will occur at the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site in which retired Army Colonel GB Singh will speak about Gandhi's blatant racism toward dark-skinned peoples, exposing the myth behind the popular view of Gandhi; a myth so well preserved that the Martin Luther King Jr. Center in Atlanta contains a statue of the racist-minded Mohandas Gandhi. We believe that this will be an informative event not only for African Americans but for Dalits as well.

If you know of a way to inform any Dalits living in the Atlanta area about this event your forwarding of this information to them or letting us know how to do this would be very much appreciated!

About Col. Singh - Col. G.B. Singh is a retired U.S. Army medical officer. He has been stationed in many parts of the world, including twice in South Korea. He is also a professional student of Indian politics, Hinduism, and the life and teachings of Gandhi. His latest book, "Gandhi: Behind the Mask of Divinity" (Prometheus Books, 2004), explores little known facets of Gandhi's life, placing particular focus on his many years in South Africa.

About OFMI - The Organization for Minorities of India (OFMI) was created to educate people about the history and current role of the major religious and cultural Indian minorities, which include Buddhists, Christians, Dalits, Muslims, and Sikhs. Our goal is also to encourage dialogue and understanding between Indian and non-Indian minorities.

About the event: The event will be held at the martin Luther King Jr. Center on Sunday, August 26th from 2pm-5pm. Everyone that is available to attend is welcome.

Thank you for your time, I look forward to hearing from you.

SPECIAL THANKS TO SHRI GURU RAVI DASS SABHA OF NEW YORK

Our special thanks to Shri Guru Ravidas Sabha New York and to all Punjabis who took first historic step to highlight Baba Sahib Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in India's 60th Independence Day Parade in New York.

NRI Punjabis have played a lead role in spreading and promoting Baba Sahib Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's mission around the world for over fifty years. They have always offered their services and finances voluntarily for the community support.

I must mention here that the main organizers and financers of Baba Sahib's float were our Punjabi brothers and sisters of New York along with other Indians. We extend our support from around the world to encourage them to do more such historic events.

We are proud of our community members who dedicate their time and money to spread Baba Sahib's Mission of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. Today, we are proud of all who organized Baba Sahib's float for the parade. Our special thanks to Shri Guru Ravidas Sabha and all Punjabi brothers and sisters for their support and financial help that made it happen.

Also, we appreciate AMBEDKARTIMES.COM for posting beautiful pictures of the float.

R. K. OSHORAJ PRESETNS HIS THOUGHTS ABOUT THE WEBSITE

I would like all of you to join me to commend an honest and hard working personality of our community who is known by all of you for the past years and I am sure you will all agree about his dedicated hard work.

He is one and the only Mr. Prem Kumar Chumber, Editor, Ambedkartimes.com.

Mr. Prem Kumar Chumber is doing a commendable job by hosting Ambedkartimes.com website with a great dedication. He is an example of integrity, honesty and loyalty. We must learn a lesson from him to serve our community without any personal benefits.

Our community certainly can benefit by having such personalities who are honest and dedicated, however, there are some people who pretend to be the community workers and expect money in return of their services. Some of them think, after a while, community will forget about their false promises and they can come and try to get more money without explaining what they have done with the money they took years and years ago. They call themselves to be working in the service of the community but in actual, they are surviving on the pity of their own community.

How our community is surviving; it is because of the people who are quite the opposite and Mr. Prem Kumar Chumber is one of them. He spends his own money, time and efforts to serve the community. He works very hard days in and days out without any personal benefit and without the expectations of any financial help of others.

I personally assure you and also I think I can take the liberty on behalf of all those people who have used your website services over the years without any cost, all will stand by you if you ever needed any support.Mr. Prem Kumar Chumber, all the best for your community services and keep up the good work.

May Lord Buddha bless him with peace and good health!

MR. SAURAV ARYA PRESENTS HIS THOUGHTS

Jai bhim!

It was nice talking with you! Needless to say, you have done an excellent job by putting up www.ambedkartimes.com It is hightime to start social networking at mass scale. Internet has been a great boon to dalit movement and now Dalit NRIs,Intellects and Students are in touch with eachother. I have been involved in social networking with fellow ambedkarites since 2004. When I was in second year of my undergraduation in IIT Kharagpur, i was quite excited to see yahoogroups like : dalits-international, BudhistCircle, apnaIIT etc. After graduation,in 2006 I got recruited by Danieli (www.danieli.com) and started working as a Purchasing Engineer in Danieli Headquarters,Buttrio,Italy.

In last few years, I made some effort to strengthen our media.I believe that unless we wont have an alternative media,it wont be possible to achieve social and economic equality. We have yahoo and google groups, websites and now its time to have TV channels, movies , magazines, rock bands... Presently I am writing a book : 'Dalits and Media' and previously i had made some videos and composed few songs against caste and racial discrimination.I would like to team up with those who are interested in making short movies and documentaries for social cause.

Saurav Arya

Excellent Article

Excellent articles on Dalit consciousness in Punjab including Babu Mangu Ram. It is pity that the people sitting in the Gurudwaras are not interested to know about their great history. They have their mind set and don't want to change it. I have personal experience with so many people like this. Any how we got to keep on knocking, one day they might realise the reality. Keep up the good work.

With best wishes and warmest regards,

Greetings to Prof. Ronki Ram

Dear All,

We must pay sincere homage to our great leader, emancipator and savior Babasaheb. I also convey my greetings to Prof. Ronki Ram for his article on Babasaheb and nationalism. Baba Saheb was the true nationalist in every action. He has the courage and ability to single-handedly oppose the national leaders of his time as also the English rulers

OUR OWN TV & COMMUNICATION MEDIA

It was really nice and pleasant to speak to you on last Saturday. I am so happy that someone so committed is consolidating the views on the issues concerning Dalits and placing before the world. Let's keep this momentum going forward. I was encouraging to know that such a huge hits have been received by the site in short time. Let's keep this contact going and build up an awareness campaign in this direction. The site is hosting quality material on the issues concerning dalits and these needs to be preserved in form of some hard copy somewhere for coming generations of readers. Please think it over.

A wild idea keep coming to my mind about having our own TV channel and communication media training institution in India to highlight the issues and problems of Dalits across the country. This will serve an important communication tool to bring out the issues to the forefront. You may have seen that various religious sectors are having have their own channels in India. Let's think on these lines and throw this ides open to Dalit businessmen. Think it over.

I am attaching an appeal made by me to hundreds of Dalit brothers in our area. You may find it interesting. As continuation to this appeal, thousands of dalits will attend Floral Tribute and awareness programme at Dinanagar, Gurdaspur in Punjab

Warm regards,
Rajinder Kashyap

HELPFUL WEBSITE

I have visited the website: www.ambedkartimes.com. I have read all articles on this website. I really enjoyed reading the articles that are based on the information about our great community. There are a lot of things on Dr. Ambedkar and other similar leaders such as Babu Kanshi Ram and Babu Mangoo Ram Mugowalia that helped our community along all the rough times throughout the history. There are some articles that explain the cruelty that the men and women of our community had to go through to make tomorrow better for the next generation. Other articles include information on Dr. Ronki Ram, and Mr. S. L. Virdi. This website is very informational on topics of historical people and events that made our community survive all the hard times in history. This is a very good website where you could go onto and find research information on historical events that happened to probably our grandparents or your relatives. This website is very helpful and you will surly enjoy visiting it.

What a wonderful life it is… some day have a happy and some moments unhappy. How far have we traveled using this body as a vehicle or a boat in this entire world? Second by second, minute after minutes, hour after hours, day after days, week and weeks, month aftermonths and year after year… we are traveling for thepeace andhappy. Searching for the happylife and prosperity in life… The more we traveledand search forit… the more we are trapping on this entire net of samsaraand facingwith the suffering. The distance covered by traveling is muchless than the distanceleft ahead. Many years have simply goneWithout making any notice or guiding us where to go, what to do and where to stay overnights, which direction is to make a choice to step further from one station to
another.I have seen this world and the mighty ocean and people roaming and living without aims of life!Live just for they were born into this world.I think, I do not need their quotations to show off asa proof – whether one livesin majestic palace or platform – the feeling is same – no one could everalter it.

So, I say to you all as a friendly message of thisyear, “Go ahead to meet the leftover distance of life.”May your journey of homeless life be as smooth as of a walking person on the Silk Road !

I wish you a veryhappy new year!

The protests which recently broke out have caused lossof some of our 'BHIM SAINIKS.' these 'SHAHIDS' would be a constantly source of inspiration in carrying our BHIM RATH forward. Never the less, we should salute the families who have created these great sons. But, at the same time, WE should also come out with some relief to these families. I think we should identify the sufferedfamilies and give them the helping hand. I request peoplein position to think and act over the issue.

BSP FOUNDER Kanshi Ram passed away in New Delhi on Monday after suffering a cerebral stroke.

His contributions to the Dalit consciousness will be cherished by the future generations to come.Mr. Kanshi Ram had declarted previously that he would adopt Buddhism in October 2006 to coincide with the Dr. Ambedkar's 50th anniversary of conversion. BEST WISHES

I saw your website www.ambedkartimes.com. It is very impressive. Congratu;ations! I send you all my best wishes.I am forwarding herewith Dr Rahul Deepankar's impressions of his visit to Deeksha Bhumi.

Lakshman
10/20/06

Dr Rahul Deepankar on his visit to Deeksha Bhumi

I tried to persuade Dr Rahul Deepankar to participate in the meeting of minds in Washington D.C. on Oct 21, 2006. As it was impossible for him to get away from Chicago, he was kind enough to send me at my request some of his his impressions for our information. I am forwarding them herewith.

His impressions make me feel how ignorant we are about so many things about dalit issues, especially Ambedkarism and Buddhism, when we sit down to dicuss them. How enlightening it would be, if we were to do so in the presence of Ven. Shurei Sasai of Nagpur, Prof Thorat and Dr Mungekar of Delhi, Christopher Queen of Harvard, and Dr Rahul Depankar of Chicago! Perhaps it would remain a dream. It should however be possible to take note of some of the points which have emerged, namely, (i) media black-out of a mega event, (b) Modi's cunning strategy in Gujarat to make Buddhism as part of Hinduism, (c) College of Buddhist Studies set up by Ven. Shurei Sasai at Manser, (d) Women's Inter College set up Dr Deepankar in his village in Bulandshahr (e) Christianity and Ravidas movement as alternatives to escape from BSO. Here are Dr Deepankar's views in his own words.

Lakshman
Oct 20, 2006

Dear Mr. Lakshman;

As I had discussed with you last evening, I had great experience during my travel in India and I visited Mumbai, Nagpur, Agra, Aligarh, and of course, my village. We had a large press conference in Mumbai to emphasize our opposition to and rejection of Modi’s action in Gujrat. I must emphasize that Jain Community has also expressed their anger and rejection of the idea that Jainism and Buddhism are being declared as same as Hinduism in the recent legislation passed by Gujrat Assembly.

I was in Nagpur for a week and had life changing experience during Golden Jubilee Celebrations at Deeksha Bhumi. I have so many observations and memories of my visit that I intended to give a detailed write up, however, due to paucity of the time and overwhelming work routine upon my return, I have not been able to accomplish that. A few of my main observations are as following…

In 2 ½ days on October 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, I witnessed approximately 3 million visitors to Deeksha Bhumi, however, except for few local newspapers, there was complete blackout by national print and electronic media. The entire celebration there was a palpable and visible environment of deep civility and fraternity among all visitors. Despite 3 million people visiting, there was not even a single incidence of any conflict or misconduct. There was no part of the Country that was not represented inthe gathering.Local Police had completely handed over the entire job of orderand discipline to volunteers of Samata Sainik Dal coming from various parts of the country. It was a matter of pride and great satisfaction to see the smooth functioning.

October 1st there was a march conducted by Monks under leadership of Bhante Sessai. It is established that about 25 thousand Monks participated.I had the opportunity to interact with a few dozen international Buddhist leaders who came to join Bhante Sessai and the march. I’m greatly impressed by the work and devotions that Bhante Sessai has provided to the Buddhist movement in India. In my view, he is the most important and accomplished leader to advance Buddhism in India after Baba Saheb. On 3rd of October, he inaugurated the College of Buddhist Studies at Manser near Nagpur. It is a large 2-story college building with all the needed facilities. Many friends from U.K. were part of the inauguration and I presume they may have contributed towards creation of the above facility. There were dozens of conferences held during this week. Notably, Mr. Camble from Canada organized a successful international meet on the 28th and 29th of September and there was a 3-day retreat of training and discourses related to Buddhism at Naglok. I was impressed with their compound and tradition of bringing Buddhist training to thousands of Neobuddist from all over the country every year. Ravidasi movement in Overall, I see a great momentum of Buddhism revival in the country. I do believe that organized evangelical Christianity and traditional Punjab create alternative venues to escape B.S.O.

I am unable to write all that is in my mind at present, but hope to put it together sometime in future. I’m also sending a few pictures and later on I will send you many more prints when they are ready. Wishing you all the best of health and spirits.

Yours in Dhamma,
Rahul Deepankar

Dear Mr. Lakshman ;

I must add the following to my letter because of their importance. Professor Chris Queen from Harvard traveled with me from Nagpur to Dehli, Agra, Aligarh and of course, my village. He spent 8 days with girls at Deepankar Kanya Intercollege and stayed overnight in the village. He also was quite impressed with social and psychological changes that he noted in Agra. Elsewhere he and I also delivered lectures at Aligarh Muslim University on Siryed Ahmed Khan, a weeklong annual lecture series. In Dehli I met Professor Thorat and Dr. Mungekar. They are committed Ambedkarites and they both are contributing a great deal in extracting help from the government for the downtrodden masses on India and I found their efforts in advancing Buddhism very impressive.

Yours in Dhamma,

Rahul Deepankar
